The Scott Cooper Duo
Bluegrass Guitar Duo
Scott Cooper and Jim Lewin are veterans of the Bay Area music scene with credits as long as anyone. The duo performs a mix of original and cover tunes from bluegrass, rock, country and Americana. Cooper and Lewin have been playing music together on and off for over 20 years, including a recent engagement for the Grateful Dead's Archives. Cooper is well-known as a multi-instrumentalist who plays drums, bass and guitar. Cooper's recent CD "A Leg Trick" reached #5 on the national jam band radio charts. Lewin is a hot-shot guitar slinger who cut his teeth playing bluegrass with California stalwarts the Harmony Grits. A busy touring schedule with jam band Great American Taxi keeps Lewin on the road for most of the year. Jim's dexterity and breadth of chops is simply awe-inspiring.
Duarte's musical style is firmly based in traditional Latin music, while referencing elements of funk and jazz fusion. His playing reflects a true sense of the gypsy spirit. In his solo acoustic playing, as well as in his searing electric solos, he plays with a passion that equally captivates the listener. Duarte began playing guitar at age 12. His innovation and curiosity led him to classical music and jazz during high school. After leaving school, Duarte began to work professionally, playing R&B, funk, and other styles, touring and playing session dates. He has lived in England, and performed there and throughout Europe. He has also toured with ex-Jerry Garcia keyboardist Merl Saunders, and played on recordings with ex-Santana/Journey keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie.
Winner of ASCAP’s Popular Music Award in Composition, Sonya Jason has released three CD’s as solo artist and contributed her saxophone sound to more than three dozen additional recordings. Sonya has led her own bands in thousands of live performances. Playing for the King of Thailand was just one of more than 60 music festival appearances around the world. She’s performed or recorded with the Yellowjacket's bassist Jimmy Haslip, smooth jazz guitarist Grant Geissman, the funky Brothers Johnson, and big band trumpeter Ray Anthony, to name a few. Legendary saxophonist Phil Woods said of Sonya, “The lady can play! Emotion and fire well-tempered by a sensitive, warm approach."
Lisa & Mason
Jazz Vocals & Guitar
From sultry and elegant ballads to swingin’ standards, singer Lisa Schultz and guitarist Mason Razavi interpret the book of jazz standards in the classic duo format. Lisa and Mason delight audiences by playing off of each other’s musical ideas throughout their set, and share an energy that is fun and contagious. Since they started their collaboration in 2009, Lisa and Mason have played at events all over the Bay Area at venues such as the Saratoga Mountain Winery (Chateau Deck), Cinnabar, Testarossa Winery, The Capital Club, The Bell Theater at Angelica’s Bistro, and many others. Whether they’re the center of attention or simply the finishing touch to a special day, Lisa and Mason leave listeners with their toes tapping and their faces smiling.
Mark Owens starting playing guitar in 1961 and amazed some of the "Greats" in the Music World! Born and raised in California, he has been playing up and down the coast and in Hawaii for 11 years. He has been influenced by Chet Atkins, Pat Metheney, & Gabby Pahinui. Mark has opened for Dave Mason, David Crosby, Jimmy Messina, Lee Michaels, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Richard Smith, The Association and more! He has a Hawaiian Slack-Key derivative kind of sound that will astound you.
Peter Spitzer Jazz Duo
Peter Spitzer (tenor saxophone and clarinet) and Dan Neickarz (guitar) are Bay Area jazz veterans who have played together as a duo for several years. Peter’s musical background includes over 30 years with various Bay Area Brazilian bands, as well as countless jazz combo and big band gigs, in a myriad of venues. Dan has played at the San Jose Jazz Festival; for five years at Garden City in San Jose, with house guitar trio Strings Attached; and for Princess Cruises.
At It’s Italia, Peter and Dan will be presenting an improvisational take on the “Great Brazilian Songbook” of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Roberto Menescal, Chico Buarque, and Ary Barroso - bossa nova, samba, and choro, as well as some blues, straight-ahead jazz, and originals.
Americana / Bluegrass / Western Swing
JimBo has lead The Fishpeople since 1992 with his hard, fast picking on the guitar and banjo, raw lead vocals, and wry wit. Along the way JimBo has also worked with Trout's Rustic Revelers, Trout's Jug Thumpers, and The Van Trout Family Singers, among others. He hosts the monthly bluegrass jam at The Atlas Cafe (since 1998)." JimBo's 2007 solo album "Catch of the Day" has been acclaimed by the very young and the very old alike!
